Jayda Story

When Jayda was just sixteen, she and her friends were removed from harm within a karaoke bar, through LIFT’s assistance. As a result two offenders were convicted to 35 years in prison after being found guilty of prostitution and child sexual trafficking offences. Five girls were placed under the care of child welfare protection shelters to ensure their safety and recovery from trauma.

Their lives had been restored, and they were ready to rejoin society after completing the recovery process. In this case, the survivors choose their own path. Two of them made the decision to return home and live with their families. Three young girls are being loved and cared for in foster homes while continuing their education.

Jayda was born into a tough situation—a broken family with just her and her single mom. Growing up, her world revolved around nightclubs and bars, leaving her with little hope for the future. Because of this, she found it difficult to envision and plan for her future, even though she had the freedom to choose her own path. LIFT's social work team received a report from the shelter Jayda was receiving care from; LIFT counselled Jayda with her  life goals and future plans, adding real value to Jayda’s recovery.

From that day on, Chu, LIFT's social work leader, has been looking after, counselling and encouraging  Jayda every step of the way. Chu noticed some positive changes in Jayda since moving into a foster home, under LIFT’s partner in providing social services for survivors of human trafficking. Through counselling, Jayda gained confidence and discovered her dream of returning to school.

"I want to be an electrician because I loved seeing the light shine through the darkness. If a light bulb breaks, I want to be the person who fixes it and makes the lamp shine again. Do you think I can be a female electrician?" - Jayda said.

Chu replied, "Yes, we believe in you." Furthermore, LIFT Life Funds played a crucial role in making her dream of attending vocational school a reality. Ultimately, Jayda's determination to turn her life around was evident as she successfully completed her vocational education in electronics. Now, she is preparing to pursue her higher studies at the university. Your support through LIFT's mission has not only changed Jayda's life but also ensures that survivors like her can rebuild their lives in a sustainable way, never to return to the path of darkness again.
